Colorado Springs rescue dog to be featured in Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl
While the Broncos won’t be in Super Bowl LVIII, Colorado residents can look forward to cheering on a local, more furry celebrity for a different kind of trophy this February.
The Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region announced last week that one of its shelter dogs made it to the big leagues and will be featured in Puppy Bowl XX.
Chili, a Boston terrier-Chihuahua mix, will represent Colorado and HSPPR in the 20th annual Animal Planet event featuring 131 puppies. Her TV appearance will mark the second consecutive year that puppies from HSPPR played in the game.

The paw-sitively adorable matchup is the longest running call-to-adoption televised event and features puppies from 73 different shelters and rescues across 36 states and territories, according to a media release.
Chili was surrendered to the Humane Society in August around the same time HSPPR was looking to submit a puppy for casting in this year’s Puppy Bowl, according to the Humane Society’s public relations manager, Cody Costra.
“We submitted the pictures (of Chili) to Discovery and I think they fell in love with her, too, as soon as they saw her,” Costra said. “They selected her and, luckily, (she) got to go to the Puppy Bowl and she got to show off some skills.”

The “spunky” pup traveled to New York for filming last October with a staff member from the Humane Society, where she played for Team Ruff and went up against Team Fluff in pursuit of the “Lombarky” trophy.
Although Chili will be featured in the game, she has already found her forever home.
The 7-month-old pup was adopted back in October by Claire Gammon, a stewardship coordinator at the Humane Society, after Gammon’s friend played matchmaker for the two.
“She messaged me and was like ‘Hey, I found this perfect puppy for you and I think she’d be a great fit’,” Gammon said. “She’s a little too good at matchmaking.”
Chili now lives with Gammon and her older dog sibling, Arya, who she loves to tease and play with.
Chili sits in front of a Christmas tree in her forever home.
“She’ll take whatever toy Arya wants to play with and she’ll run under the bed and then do laps around the house to get (Arya) to chase her,” Gammon said.
The energetic, silly puppy can go from taking a nap to having the “zoomies” in no time, according to Costra.
