Open house
Cripple Creek & Victor Gold Mine is inviting local residents, community leaders and interested stakeholders to attend a community open house Aug. 14 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. at the Butte Theater.
This event is an opportunity for community members to learn more about ongoing mining operations and future plans at CC&V. Representatives from various departments will be on hand to share updates and answer questions.
All are welcome to attend. No RSVP is required.
BBQ contest
The 8th Annual Smokin’ the Ute Pass Summit BBQ Contest & Fundraiser is happening Aug. 17 from noon — 2 p.m. at Paradox Beer Co. (10 Buffalo Court in Divide).
Presale tickets are available now and prices go up at the gate. Expect mouthwatering BBQ, great beer, and tons of friendly competition, all benefitting Community Partnership.

Another open house
Northeast Teller County Fire is celebrating 40 years of service to the community of Woodland Park and its neighbors with an open house on Aug. 23.
“There will be activities for all ages, and we’ve even included a dunk tank,” a NE Teller Fire announcement said. “Food and fun for all! ALL are invited to help us celebrate! Thank you and hope to see you there.”
The celebration will be from noon-4 p.m. at 1010 Evergreen Heights.
Tax credits
The Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade is accepting applications for the Opportunity Now Tax Credit.
Companies in the advanced manufacturing, clean energy, construction, infrastructure and semiconductor industries that are investing in talent initiatives such as workforce training or skill development are eligible to apply.
This program offers a refundable tax credit of up to 50% of eligible costs, including facility improvements and equipment purchases used for training.
