Colorado Springs firefighters to assist with Quarry fire

Firefighters with the Colorado Springs Fire Department are joining the effort to combat the Quarry fire that started in Jefferson County on Tuesday night.
A crew from Colorado Springs was sent to the wildfire at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The Quarry fire, burning along Deer Canyon Road southwest of Denver, was discovered by a sheriff’s deputy at 9 p.m. Tuesday and is estimated to have grown to 200 acres as of Wednesday morning.
At least 575 homes were under evacuation orders, according to officials.
“Every neighborhood in this vicinity is at risk,” Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Mark Techmeyer said.
According to fire officials, 75 firefighters are on the ground and support aircrafts have been ordered. A helicopter carrying a large tank is also dumping water to assist in extinguishing the blaze.
