El Paso County couple arrested in $2 million contractor fraud case

Following an investigation started in 2023, the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office announced on Tuesday the arrest of a couple who allegedly defrauded millions out of the customers of their contracting company.
The Sheriff’s Office said that Dwight Mulberry, 52, and Joni Mulberry, 40, were arrested on suspicion of using their company Craftsman Homes and Interiors to steal and launder more than $2 million from 2023 to 2024.
The Sheriff’s Office said 19 victims were identified in the course of the investigation.
The couple are together facing 43 charges, including 22 counts of money laundering, six counts of check fraud, 12 counts of theft and three counts of securities fraud. Both are in custody at the El Paso County jail on a $25,000 bond.
The company, operated out of unincorporated El Paso County, does not have a Better Business Bureau accreditation. The BBB site lists the company as having been in operation for seven years.
Sheriff Joe Roybal said in a release that he prioritized criminal accountability, “whether it be a violent crime or white collar.”
“I thank the citizens who brought forth the information to our Office and the amazing EPSO detectives who worked hard to seek justice for multiple victims,” he said.
