Air Force football hires former Northwestern standout Deonte Gibson as defensive ends coach

Northwestern grad and former NFL defensive lineman Deonte Gibson will coach Air Force’s defensive ends, a hire announced Saturday by the Falcons.

A third-team All-Big Ten selection and three-time academic all-conference honoree at Northwestern, Gibson spent the past two seasons coaching the defensive line at Youngstown State. Gibson also spent two years at Akron with outside linebackers/defensive ends.

He also logged time on the staff at Eastern Illinois.

Gibson played in the NFL with Tampa Bay and Detroit in 2016.

In May 2022, Gibson received an NFL Bill Walsh Diversity Coaching Fellowship and worked with Cleveland during its offseason organized team activities.

The move replaces E.J. Whitlow, who departed coach Troy Calhoun’s staff last week for Wisconsin.
