Off-duty police officer struck by vehicle while walking dog

An off-duty Colorado Springs police officer was struck by a vehicle Thursday night and transferred to the hospital.

Officials with the Colorado Springs Police Department said just before 5 p.m. Officers received reports of a pedestrian hit by a vehicle near the intersection of Laclede Avenue and Lorraine Street.

Gazette news-partner KOAA confirmed with police the pedestrian was an off-duty police officer with CSPD. 

According to police on the scene, the off-duty officer had been walking their dog when a vehicle struck them. The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene and was contacted by investigators.

Officials said the off-duty officer was transported to a local hospital with serious, but not life threatening injuries. 

News 5 reports the dog did not survive the crash. 

According to police, the crash remains an active and ongoing investigation. Anyone carrying information pertaining to the crash is being asked to contact law enforcement officials at 719-444-7000.
