Armed robbery suspect arrested after car chase, Colorado Springs police say

An armed robbery suspect was arrested early Saturday after leading Colorado Springs police on a chase in a stolen car, according to law enforcement officials.

Kristoval Diaz, 23, faces several charges including robbery, motor vehicle theft, vehicular eluding and driving under the influence, police said.

At about 10:40 p.m. Friday, officers responded to calls about a convenience store robbery in the 5300 block of Airport Road, where witnesses said a man entered the store, brandished a gun and demanded money from the clerk. The man, who left the store with an “undisclosed amount of cash,” was seen leaving the scene in a dark-colored truck, police said.

Just before 12:30 a.m. Saturday, officers saw the truck in the 4300 block of Airport Road and attempted to stop it, but the truck drove off. Pursuing officers were able to force the vehicle to a stop in the 3000 block of West Colorado Avenue. CSPD later learned that the truck was stolen.

No injuries were reported from the robbery or the pursuit.
