Colorado Springs Mexican restaurateur opens second location

Mexico Real owner Miguel Real has opened the second location of his eatery at 3802 Maizeland Road (formerly Carniceria Las Loma). He has done major remodeling of the eatery from the inside out. The outside of the building has been brightened up with fresh paint. Inside, the dining space is not relegated to only the bar area — he has expanded seating to the back of the restaurant.

“We had a wedding for 110 people last weekend, and this area was perfect,” he said. “It’s also used for dining.”

The front side of the eatery, which had been a carnicería (meat shop) and Hispanic food market, has been reimagined as a Mexican import boutique.

“My wife has owned an import business in Santa Fe (New Mexico) for more than seven years,” he said. “This is a much smaller version.”

It’s a lovely store with high-quality merchandise, a nice addition to the eatery where you can browse while waiting to be seated.

Hours are 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Details: 719-308-2127, mexicorealfamrestaurant.com.
