A man and woman were arrested Friday morning after police said they admitted to breaking into coin operated washers and dryers at hotel laundry rooms and apartment complexes across Colorado Springs. Colorado Springs police did not identify the 34-year-old manor the 30-year-old woman,who were arrested after they were pulled over in a car that was speeding on Palmer Park Boulevard, near Monteagle Street. An open container of alcohol, as well as burglary tools, were found inside the car, police said. Stolen property was found in the burglars' hotel room. Detectives are investigating the coin burglaries, most of which occurred after Dec. 1, police said.


Jury deliberations began Thursday for a man accused in the fatal shooting a 38-year-old Colorado Springs man last May.Jason Romeo Forbes, 31, is charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder in a shooting inside a car that killed David "DJ" Johnson and seriously injured Javar Harrison.In closing arguments Thursday afternoon, defense attorney Tracey Eubanks spoke at length about the inconsistencies in Harrison's testimony, who, from his hospital bed told Colorado Springs detectives that Forbes was the shooter.


A crash that sent an 11-year-old girl to the hospital with serious, but non-life threatening injuries, shut down westbound lanes of Platte Avenue, west of Circle Drive for about three hours Friday evening. Police said the girl, who suffered a broken leg, was crossing Platte Avenue in a crosswalk on the west side of the intersection when she was hit by a westbound vehicle that was in the center through-lane. She was crossing against the traffic light, police said. The crash was reported near the intersection of Platte Avenue and Circle Drive shortly after 5:30 p.m. Colorado Springs police major accidents unit is investigating the crash. Police said the driver has not been cited and the investigation is ongoing.
