Camden Pulkinen, of The Broadmoor Skating Club, won the junior men’s competition at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships in San Jose, Calif., on Wednesday. He was handily first in the free skate to go with his first-place short program to win the overall by nearly 20 points at 219.29. The Broadmoor’s Alex Wellman was sixth. Dinh Tran of the Skating Club of San Francisco, was second.
Pulkinen, coached by Tom Zakrajsek, was second in last year’s competition.
The top levels of competition, with some area competitors, start Wednesday night with the women’s short program.
The event, which determines U.S. skaters for the Olympics and other events, goes through Sunday.
