1999-2001 – Scott Blackmun serves as USOC general counsel and interim CEO

2001 – Blackmun departs USOC after failing to win vote to become permanent CEO

2009 – Blackmun approached by USOC to return as CEO. At first he is hesitant.

2010 – Blackmun becomes USOC CEO. There had been six CEOs since he departed in 2001.

2012 – United States wins 103 medals, best in world, at London Summer Olympics.

2016 – United States win 121 medals, best in world, at Rio Summer Olympics.

2017 - SafeSport, organized to stop abuse of athletes, opens its offices in Denver. Blackmun was main force behind the organization.

2017 - In a Dec. 21 letter to gold medal-winning gymnast and Larry Nassar-victim McKayla Maroney, Blackmun apologizes for the failure of the "Olympic family" to protect athletes, but said that he was not aware of the scope of the sex abuse claims before law enforcement got involved - and allegations made public in an Indianapolis Star expose - in 2016.

2018 – United States win 20 medals, fewest since 1998, at South Korea Winter Olympics.

2018 – Blackmun, citing health concerns, resigns as USOC CEO.
