Some say the comic book world is divided between two camps: Batman fans and Superman fans. Either you gravitate toward the down-to-earth Caped Crusader, waging a war on crime with a gritty resolve, a finely honed physique and gadgets that only billionaire Bruce Wayne could afford, or you prefer the powerful, high-flying Man of Steel from another world. In truth, both have plenty of mutual fans, myself included. Yes, Batman is more relatable: You could be Batman if only you were willing to push yourself hard enough — and inherited those Wayne billions. (In the old days, it was only millions.) But there are elements of Superman one can relate to as well.

A quilt donated to Silver Key Senior Services last year became the inspiration for the sixth annual Silver Linings fundraising breakfast, where it was displayed. At the 2012 program’s end, supporters received tiny quilting squares in fall colors to drop into baskets.Fast forward to the seventh annual benefit May 10 at Cheyenne Mountain Resort where those hundreds of squares had been joined to represent “quilting together the services that support aging.” The quilt was the backdrop for that day’s speakers.Volunteering hundreds of hours, said Silver Key’s Kathy Allen, Susan Rector had done the piecing and Nancy Ott the machine quilting, with Susan completing the edging by hand.

I can’t tell you how many times I passed right by Three Delights Caribbean Grill without a second thought. Tucked away behind a Walgreens at Flintridge Place and Academy Boulevard, it was easy to miss.Until the wind shifted.Then the scents of smoking, grilling and roasting meats beckoned me with a call that could not be resisted. My only regret is that I waited so long to stop in.Three Delights Caribbean Grill is a small restaurant run by Amos Ferguson, a native of the Bahamas. He turns out enormous plates of the delicious Caribbean food he loves. The titular three delights are jerk, curry and barbeque, and you won’t be disappointed with any of them.
