Downtown alleys in Colorado Springs will look a lot different in the years to come. The Downtown Development Authority and City of Colorado Springs' Experience Downtown Master Plan set a goal to activate six alleys by making them more bikeable and walkable, giving businesses more entry points, and providing more dining options for eateries. Cottonwood Center for the arts, east of downtown, has already repaved and rebranded their alley as a place for events, summer camps for kids and other gatherings.
Cottonwood Center for the Arts is home to more than 100 creatives who rent studio space. The nonprofit arts complex also offers a variety of classes, a monthly exhibit and support for community artists. A day in the life of the center reveals painters, potters, photographers, woodworkers and more who often make a living off their craft.
Seven local arts organizations were awarded more than $480,000 in COVID-19 economic relief from Colorado Creative Industries.
Virtual First Friday will include a drive-by exhibit at Cottonwood Center for the Arts and a socially-distanced, in-person exhibit at Art111 Gallery & Supply in downtown Colorado Springs
