Katie (second from right) had an idea to give back to area children newly diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes: she wanted to make care bags filled with helpful items. Katie put together 24 bags that are both reusable and large enough to carry around all the items a newly diagnosed child would need. Katie knows firsthand about this, as she is a Type 1 diabetic herself. She received donations and support from several area residents and businesses in North Carolina and Australia. The bags were delivered to the Barbara Davis Center Diabetes clinic in Colorado Springs, and will be shared with the new children’s hospital, as well.
