Ladies get special prices Wednesday

Song Brinck, owner of Kura Japanese Restaurant & Sushi Bar, 3478 Research Parkway, has started offering Ladies Day Out on Wednesdays. You can get half-price beer and reduced-price appetizers, like the sea scallops butter yaki for $9 instead of the regular price of $12.If you haven’t had these before, you’re in for a treat. Four to six large scallops come, screaming hot, to the table on a searing cast iron plate. They are topped with a special mayonnaise-based sauce that causes the outside of the scallops to caramelize into crunchy goodness. From 4:30 p.m. to close on Wednesdays, Jocelyn Fay, who is a trained chef and a second-tier sommelier, offers free samples of several wines to pair with Japanese foods.“Everyone thinks wine is not a good match for sushi,” Fay said. “They only think of sake and beer.“We want to introduce some wines that work well with the spiciness of wasabi and salty soy sauce. For instance, sparkling wines, sauvignon blanc, dry riesling and pinot noir are great wines to pair with Japanese cuisine.”On Wednesdays, expect to find specials on the wines that Fay samples — by the glass and bottle.Call 282-8238 for reservations.
