Mountain Mama Natural Foods, 1625 W. Uintah St., has just completed a ceiling-to-floor makeover, and the place is looking more like a small version of Whole Foods Market. The big news is the new cafe toward the back of the store, near the deli. The open deli has a fresh new look, too.
The menu includes a “Build Your Own Salad or Sandwich” option, or you can order the “overstuffed” sandwich creations from the menu. Vegan, wheat-free and gluten-free options are available.

Follow that truckCatching onto the national trend of mobile kitchens, Robert Montoya is driving his Fill Ur Belly food truck around town. His menu features Korean barbecue and Mexican foods like smothered burritos ($5), taco burgers (two for $3.50), stacked enchilada with green or red sauce and fried egg ($6.50). The Korean barbecue (bulgolgi with rice and kimchi) is $5. There’s Frito Pie ($4.50), and you can place orders for pork tamales ($16 per dozen).

Promising cafeLe Bijou Cafe Brazil, 2031 E. Bijou St., certainly has enthusiasm behind it with owner Cecy Slaugh and line cook Elizabeth Whaluy. But the eatery needs some time to iron out kinks with service and food preparation.
Slaugh, who has operated Le Bijou Cakes, Catering and Reception Hall for several years, opened the cafe space recently. The menu offers traditional Brazilian specialities like feijoada and really strong Brazilian coffee. Cafe hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 6 to 9 p.m. Saturdays.
Swinging doorThe restaurant at 208 S. Union Blvd. has a new owner and new name: Carlos Baeza has opened Puerto Palomas Mexican Restaurant.
The place has been several Mexican eateries, a Cuban place and most recently Bobbi’s. Here’s hoping Baeza will have a successful run. Hours are 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Call 578-7845.
Name gameThe former Magic Wok, 1855 N. Circle Drive, is now called Royal Wok Chinese Restaurant.The menu remains pretty much the same, with the excellent lunch deals from $5.29 to $5.59 for a huge plate of food including an egg roll, soup, rice and lo mein. Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Sundays.
More sushi on the wayI have bad news for pizza fans and good news for sushi fans. NYPD Pizza, 4359 Integrity Center Point (east of Powers Boulevard and north of Barnes Road), closed in mid-March. New owner Young Kim will open Zen Fusion Sushi and Bistro in a week or two.
