Mountain Mama Natural Foods, 1625 W. Uintah St., has just completed a ceiling-to-floor makeover, and the place is looking more like a small version of Whole Foods Market. The big news is the new cafe toward the back of the store, near the deli. The open deli has a fresh new look, too.
The menu includes a “Build Your Own Salad or Sandwich” option, or you can order the “overstuffed” sandwich creations from the menu. Vegan, wheat-free and gluten-free options are available.
If you’ve ever had the giant signature sandwiches, such as the Hummungus (a hummus sandwich) or the turkey and cranberry cream cheese wrap, you know this is a big deal.Hours are 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Visit mountainmamanaturalfoods.com.

Promising cafeLe Bijou Cafe Brazil, 2031 E. Bijou St., certainly has enthusiasm behind it with owner Cecy Slaugh and line cook Elizabeth Whaluy. But the eatery needs some time to iron out kinks with service and food preparation.
Slaugh, who has operated Le Bijou Cakes, Catering and Reception Hall for several years, opened the cafe space recently. The menu offers traditional Brazilian specialities like feijoada and really strong Brazilian coffee. Cafe hours are 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 6 to 9 p.m. Saturdays.
