A security guard was seriously injured outside The Antlers hotel in downtown Colorado Springs on Thursday night when a man who had been waving a towel bit him, police say.
The suspect, Nathaniel Phillips, was found trespassing in the hotel around 10:30 p.m. and asked to leave by a security guard. Phillips exited the hotel, then stopped outside and began waving a towel to distract the guard, at which time he allegedly began assaulting him. He bit the guard, causing serious bodily injury, but the guard was able to restrain him until police arrived and arrested him, according to police.
The guard was taken to a hospital and was treated and released.
There is no indication that drugs were involved in the incident, Colorado Springs Police Department Lt. Dan Thompson said.
Phillips was booked at the El Paso County jail on charges of second-degree assault.
