Palmer Lake Elementary School in Lewis-Palmer School District 38 has been named as a National Title I Distinguished School by the Colorado Department of Education.
Palmer Lake earned the award for closing the achievement gap between student groups. Only one award is given in the state for each of two categories. The other category is for demonstrating exceptional student performance for two consecutive years.
The award recognizes schools that have successfully used their federal Title 1 funds to improve education for economically disadvantaged students. The program started in 1996.
Representatives from Palmer Lake Elementary will be honored at the National Title I Conference in January.
