Local Army veteran, track cyclist garners Parapan American bronze

Colorado Springs Olympic Training Center track cyclist and Army veteran Justin Widhalm took home a bronze medal in the men’s 1K time trial C1-5 finals Tuesday at the 2015 Parapan American Games in Toronto.

“It meant the world to be up on the podium today,” he said. “To be able to compete in a class against racers like this – world champions and Parapan American champions is incredible. Anytime that I can share a podium with (American gold medalist) Joe Berenyi, that is something special.”

Berenyi won in 1:07.195 ahead of Colombia’s Edwin Matiz (1:07.779), Widhalm (1:07.987) while Christopher Murphy of the United States placed fourth in 1:08.081.
