King Soopers has launched its $5 million "Community Immunity" giveaway Thursday, giving COVID-19 vaccine recipients the chance the win five $1 million checks and other prizes throughout the month, the grocery chain said in a news release.
This giveaway, lasting through July 10, intends to support President Joe Biden’s national effort to get at least 70% of the America's adult population vaccinated against COVID-19 by July 4., the firm said.
“Since day one of this pandemic, King Soopers’ most urgent priority has been the health and safety of our associates, customers and communities,” said Steve Burnham, president of King Soopers. “This is designed to inspire more adults to get vaccinated and help Colorado recover and move ahead.”
Once a week for five weeks straight, King Soopers and Kroger Health will give away one $1 million check and 10 “free groceries for a year” awards, valued at $13,000 each. This makes for a total of $5 million in checks and $650,000 in free groceries being given away, the business said.
To be eligible to win, participants must be at least 18 years old, live within the U.S. and have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at a Kroger Family Company location or by a Kroger Family Company healthcare professional at an off-site event, King Soopers said.
As of Thursday, Kroger Health said it has has administered over 4.7 million COVID-19 vaccines. According to the CDC, 62.8% of adults in the U.S. have received at least one COVID-19 vaccination shot.
