GIRLS’ BASKETBALLKiowa 54, Sanford 50At Pueblo: Kiowa (23-2) moved into the semifinals of the Class 2A state tournament with a victory over Sanford (14-10).

The Indians will face Akron (20-4) on Friday.

BASEBALLCañon City 15, Mitchell 2At Mitchell: Cañon City jumped out to an early 9-1 lead and coasted to victory.

Daniel Trouwburst scored both Mitchell runs.

Coronado 17, Discovery Canyon 4At Coronado: Leadoff batter Dylan Settle set the tone for Coronado, going 2-for-3 with four runs and two RBIs. Cougars starter Zach Malone gave up two earned runs on just three hits.

“Zach’s composure is going to be key for our program as the season progresses,” coach Bobby Lizarraga said.

Liberty 13, Widefield 4At Liberty: Liberty erupted for 12 runs in the second and third innings on its way to a victory over Widefield. Lancers Isaac Koch and Brent Williams each had three RBIs.

Florence 21, Wasson 0At Wasson: Austin Reeves went 4-for-4 with two doubles and a home run while driving in seven runs for the Huskies. Florence scored 11 runs in the first and nine in the second during the six-inning victory.

GIRLS’ SOCCERJames Irwin 1, Valley 0At James Irwin: Icenia Anderson scored her second goal of the season in the second half to lift James Irwin. Jaguars goalie Aleya Varnum made seven saves to preserve the win.

St. Mary’s 3, Trinidad 0At St. Mary’s: Katie Nicieza had a goal and an assist to lead the Pirates. Kelsey McCarty and Kendra Tyboroski also scored.

Arvada West 3, Sand Creek 0At Sand Creek: Arvada West’s Anna Evans scored a goal, and goalkeeper Erin Stengel stopped all five shots.

Grandview 6, Liberty 0At Liberty: Kristy Grasmick had two goals and an assist to pace Grandview. Emma Lundeen added a goal and an assist.

Pueblo County 5, Widefield 3At Widefield: Junior Jimie Hartman led a Pueblo County comeback with a hat trick in the second half to lead the Hornets over Widefield.

BOYS’ SWIMMINGRampart 104, Liberty 69At Liberty: Austin Smith (50-yard freestyle), Dian Clark (200 free) and the 200 medley relay had state-qualifying times for Rampart.

Liberty’s Daniel Bradford qualified in the 100 free as well as the 200 free relay and 200 medley relay.

“(Bradford) will have a strong showing at state as he also qualified for state last week in the 200 IM,” Liberty coach Mitch Karstens said.

Vista Ridge 96, Wasson 76At Wasson: Vista Ridge’s Lawrence Moore had state-qualifying times in the 200 individual medley and 100 breaststroke, and the Wolves qualified both the 200 medley and 200 free relays.

Wasson’s Keegan Miller missed state qualification in the 100 backstroke by six-tenths of a second.

GIRLS’ TENNISFalcon 4, Wasson 3At Wasson: The Falcons took control with a 3-1 record in doubles to defeat the Thunderbirds.

Lewis-Palmer 6, Grandview 1At Lewis-Palmer: The Rangers dominated  despite the Wolves sweeping the doubles matches.

GIRLS’ LACROSSEDakota Ridge 18, Palmer 5At Palmer: Lizzi Cummings had a hat trick for the Terrors, and Camy Chisholm had the other two goals.

Smoky Hill 17, Liberty 1At Liberty: Natalie Foerster scored eight goals on 10 shots to pace Smoky Hill. Veronica Bishop scored Liberty’s only goal.
