The home crowd chanted Canyon Barry’s name, serenading its emerging star as he scored bucket after bucket in overtime.
When it was finished, Barry had piled up eight of his 21 points in the extra session, helped Cheyenne Mountain to a 62-60 victory over Sand Creek and left no doubt that the youngest member of basketball’s most prolific family had stepped out on his own.
“It was crazy,” said the junior, the son of NBA Hall of Famer Rick Barry and the half-brother of three NBA players – Jon, Brent and Drew. “Fans were great tonight. They really helped us through it.”
Barry scored inside, outside, blocked a shot and sealed it with a pair of underhanded free throws, his form a carbon copy of his famous father’s – and all of that was just in overtime.
