On Thursday, UpaDowna (a Colorado Springs non-profit aimed at promoting adventure for all) posted an image of a large blue metal frame that has suddenly appeared at the Garden of the Gods Park. The frame was installed at High Point near Parking Lot #9 with an approximate height of 12 feet.
According to the minutes of a February 2017 Parks and Recreation Advisory Board meeting, the sign was to be donated by GE Johnson, with the intention of promoting Colorado Springs as “Olympic City USA.” The aforementioned meeting minutes mention that the “Olympic City USA” logo would be on the top of the frame, though it is unclear whether or not this has been added yet. It seems to be assumed that people will want to take pictures with the frame, which looks onto Pikes Peak, thus promoting the beauty of the city’s backdrop. Another board member also suggested that the frame be produced at a smaller scale and then sold to visitors of the park.
