A three-alarm blaze destroyed 14 units in two buildings at The Village at Lionstone, 255 Lionstone Drive, an east Colorado Springs apartment complex Monday, displacing 41 people including three children.

The fire was reported about 5:30 p.m. after people heard an explosion and saw flames.

Twelve destroyed units are in building 525. Two in building 515 sustained smoke and water damage. Three of the destroyed units were unoccupied.

Three people were treated on scene: one for smoke inhalation and two for thermal burns. A dog and two hamsters were killed.

The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
