The downtown phenom Conscious Table is closed

After roughly nine months and sterling reviews, Conscious Table, 26 E. Kiowa St. closed Sunday.

"I had to close the restaurant because of the huge financial burden," said Brent Beavers, the major investor and chef. "I'm talking to some other chefs in town and we may get together to open something else. Not in the Conscious Table space and with better financial backing. Right now I have a lot of debt to pay to people I really care about."

Opened by Beavers, Retka and David Cotrill in September 2011, Conscious Table was dedicated to cooking classes and the occasional dinner. Later, the restaurant moved to serving dinners on weekends Thursdays through Saturdays. Later they added lunch Tuesdays through Fridays.

In February, Cotrill, who was the second largest investor, accepted the executive chef position at Craftwood Inn. He was bought out by Beavers, who planned to bring in another investor, but that did not come to fruition.
