A member of the Crips gang was arrested Tuesday outside Scheels All Sports off Interquest Parkway in northern Colorado Springs, police say.
Shortly after 1 p.m., police responded to a call from loss prevention at Scheels in regards to two customers they said were shoplifting. Both were caught on camera concealing several items into a bag. Police identified the two alleged shoplifters, but only arrested 28-year-old Clarence Thompson. The two were in Scheels for more than two hours. Police confronted both suspects as they were entering their vehicle and arrested Thompson after a struggle.
Prior to arrest, police further identified Thompson as a Crip gang member who was on parole for aggravated robbery and escape. Police say their vehicle was associated with a home invasion call for service in December.
During the arrest, Thompson struggled with police, at which point one officer located a loaded firearm in his fanny pack. Once the firearm was taken, Thompson continued to struggle but was eventually arrested and charged with possession of a weapon by a previous offender, theft, resisting arrest and domestic violence related menacing. He was subsequently taken to jail.
