A carjacking suspect was shot and killed by the Pueblo Police Department earlier this afternoon after the suspect pointed a handgun at officers.Â
A statement released by the Pueblo Police Department on Tuesday night claims that at 2:11 p.m. officers responded to a carjacking incident where the suspects involved allegedly used a handgun.Â
The Pueblo Police Department states that after a brief pursuit of the suspects they crashed into a fence between Broadway Avenue and the 100 block of Michigan Avenue.Â
The statement from Pueblo police claims that after the crash one of the two suspects "produced a handgun and shots were fired." The suspect who produced the firearm was shot and despite life saving measures from the Pueblo Police Department, the suspect was declared dead on scene, according to the release.Â
The second suspect attempted to flee on foot but was later caught by officers. The names of neither suspect were released by the Pueblo Police Department in its statement.Â
The press release states that the 10th Judicial District Critical Incident Response Team (CRIT) and the Pueblo County Sheriff's Office will handle the investigation and that all officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave.Â
