Two people died Thursday morning after a head-on crash on Austin Bluffs Parkway.

A man was thrown from a red Honda Civic that crossed a center median into oncoming traffic around 8:10 a.m., said Lt. Catherine Buckley, a Colorado Springs police spokeswoman. Another person in the car was taken to a hospital and pronounced dead, police said.

Investigators suspect the Honda was speeding west on Austin Bluffs when it appeared to cross into the eastbound lanes, hitting a gold Jeep Liberty, Buckley said. The Jeep then hit a white van.

Two people in the Jeep were in good condition following the crash. The driver of the white van was not injured.

Both directions of Austin Bluffs Parkway from Union Boulevard to Morning Sun Avenue were closed for several hours. All lanes on Austin Bluffs Parkway were reopened by 2 p.m.
