Coronado High School senior Madison Rutherford has been named a corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship winner. Madison has been awarded the National Merit Raytheon Scholarship.
The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced the names of the first group of winners in the 63rd annual National Merit Scholarship Program.
Most awards are renewable for up to four years of college undergraduate study and provide annual stipends that range from $500 to $10,000 per year.
Recipients can use their awards at any regionally accredited U.S. college or university of their choice.
Raytheon, a defense, civil government and cybersecurity contractor, is headquartered in Waltham, Ma., and has offices worldwide, including one in Colorado Springs.
Scholars were selected from students who advanced to the finalist level in the National Merit Scholarship competition and met criteria of their scholarship sponsors.
