If you’ve never had a chance to test drive the new Acura, you’re missing out. That’s what I thought to myself when I started driving the 2018 TLX. This car pulls you in with its aggressive, sporty and alluring look; and beckons you to stay a while with its comfortable interior and smooth ride. The 2018 model includes premium features and enhancements that put it among the most technologically-advanced and well-equipped midsize luxury vehicles in its class.

I drove the 2018 TLX with its V-6 engine, super handling all wheel drive (SH-AWD), and A-SPEC. The A-SPEC package affords a bolder, sportier appearance that demands attention from every angle. The exterior features 19-inch alloy noise-reducing wheels, gorgeous dark chrome Jewel Eye® LED headlights, exterior side sills, rear spoiler, LED fog lights and more. The interior boasts V-6-exclusive Perforated Lux Suede® seating surfaces, ventilated and heated front seats, and rocker panel extension with chrome trim. A-SPEC is inspired by the NSX, and brings with it an expressive, eye-catching look that further augments the thrill of the drive.

“People love this car for its performance. They luxuriate in having an AWD vehicle that looks this good, has the latest technological features, and incredible performance that allows them to get up and go on,” says Leif Clinard, General Sales Manager for Pikes Peak Acura. The 2.4-liter, 16-valve DOHC i-VTEC direct injection engine produces 206 horsepower at 6800 rmp and 182 lb-ft torque at 4500 rpm. These high-quality parts work in harmony to provide exhilarating performance without sacrificing fuel efficiency. Meanwhile, the SH-AWD that brings the car all-weather stability and safety, is matched with Agile Handling Assist, which helps improve cornering response and handling.

I experienced the vehicle’s power firsthand, and enjoyed every moment. The car is ready for action with Economy, Normal, Sport IDS and Sport+ mode. Paddle shifters allow for the driver to control transmission shifting without taking their hands off the wheel; and in Sport+ mode, it affords a racing-inspired rush. Whipping through southeast Colorado Springs, I savored the responsiveness, high agility and solid construction – and despite being a powerhouse, the car was peacefully quiet, due in part to its acoustic glass windshield and active noise control.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NTSA) continues to award the TLX – along with all Acuras – a five-star overall vehicle score and highest safety rating. Some of the TLX’s safety features include blind spot information, rear cross traffic monitor, vehicle stability assist, and front and rear parking sensors. The Advanced Compatibility Engineering body structure uses ultra-high strength steel to disperse front impact energy so less force is transferred inside.

Finally, what 2018 vehicle is complete without technological connectivity and convenience? The TLX doesn’t miss a thing with: Apple CarPlay, which allows you to send and receive messages or listen to music right from the intuitive touch screen or Siri voice; Android Auto, which provides the aforementioned capabilities via an Android device; wireless charger for your smartphone; navigation system with 3D view; Bluetooth mobile phone connectivity; Pandora music interface; SiriusXM Radio; and much more.

I’ve only touched upon the innovative, performance-inspired vehicle that is the 2018 TLX. To learn more or take a test drive, visit Pikes Peak Acura at 655 Automotive Drive, Colorado Springs. For more information, call 719-633-1500 and ask for Leif or Bret, or visit PikesPeakAcura.com.
