Outlook: “What excites me the most about this team is their level of talent, they don’t even realize their potential,” Christian said. “I am also very excited about our versatility, I have a number of players that can play multiple positions for us.”

Notes: The Trojans lost six players to graduation but return Durham, who led the team in kills and blocks as a junior.

Liberty Lancers

Coach: Amy Adams, 2nd season

Outlook: “We have returning and new players that are both powerful and dynamic,” Adams said. “The team chemistry is good and they are already syncing well on the court. These girls want the banner hanging in their gym at the end of season. I’m looking forward to watching them battle for it.”

Notes: The Lancers lost eight players to graduation, but return the team’s top hitter, McMoore.

Palmer Terrors

Coach: Adrianne Dettler, 10th season

Outlook: “We are a group of like-minded individuals competing together for a common goal — compete and win,” Dettler said.

Notes: Schloesser is the CSML’s top returning threat behind the service line. She had 53 aces as a junior. Farrell also returns after leading the Terrors with 117 kills last year.

Pine Creek Eagles

Coach: Molly Stowers, 4th season

Notes: Simpson led the Rams with 182 kills last season.

4A CSML

Canon City Tigers

Coach: Ken Cline, 11th season

Outlook: “We have a great group of athletes that work hard and do everything they can to better themselves and each other,” Cline said.

Notes: Canon City lost seven seniors to graduation, including the team’s top offensive weapon, but the Tigers return Grace Baxter to the court, who had 131 kills as a junior.

Mesa Ridge Grizzlies

Coach: Grace Hovasse, 4th season

Outlook: “We have very strong players and competitors,” Hovasse said. “We are excited about the team’s depth.”

Notes: The Grizzlies will look to replace their top two hitters Kylie Lenberg and Angelina Jackson.

Mitchell Marauders

Outlook: “I am excited to build off of what we started last year,” Ferguson said. “My goal is to get my girls to compete in our league.”

Notes: The Marauders will look to replace Faith Dellamaestra (graduation), who led the team with 68 kills.

The Classical Academy Titans

Coach: Kiyo Greene, 6th season

Outlook: “We have a young team which is great for future development and experience,” Greene said. “The girls we have are smart and hard working which will lead to a great year for us.”

Notes: The Titans have claimed at least a share of the league crown five of the last six seasons.

Widefield Gladiators

Coach: Allison Olney, 1st season

Outlook: “I am excited to see what this team can do this year,” Olney said. “We have some great all-round players and I know the players will work hard to surprise teams this year.”

Notes: Hutchison finished her junior season with 200 kills to lead the Gladiators, and was second on the team with 40 aces. Widefield also returns its top two blockers, Stewart and Ricketts.

4A/5A PPAC

Air Academy Kadets

Coach: Kristen Sciacca, 3rd season

Last year: 14-11 (4-3 4A/5A PPAC)

Returning athletes: Sydney Barnes, sr.; Ellie Hess, jr. Lyla Hollis, sr.; Riley Kerce, so.; Natalia Lambos, jr.; Hayley Payne, sr.

Outlook: “What excites me the most about this upcoming season is that we have experience on our side,” Sciacca said. “We did not lose any seniors or players last year, so we are returning with the same team who works so hard together and for each other.”

Notes: The Kadets will have a large core of veteran seniors to lead the 2019 squad.

Cheyenne Mountain Indians

Coach: Gail Sanchez, 5th season

Last year: 13-15 (3-4 4A/5A PPAC)

Outlook: Sanchez said she is excited for the level of play and competition her team will see.

Notes: Sanchez said two sophomore players will “be studs in the front row this season.”

Discovery Canyon Thunder

Coach: Melissa Bravo, 8th season

Last year: 25-4 (6-1 4A/5A PPAC) Earned a No. 2 seed and a first-round bye in the 4A state tournament.

Falcon Falcons

Coach: Steven Lacy, 1st season

Outlook: “We are a rebuilding team with a new coach and new aspirations,” Lacy said.

Notes: The Falcons graduated six seniors, including the team’s top three offensive players.

Lewis-Palmer Rangers

Coach: Wade Baxter, 3rd season

Last year: 28-1 (7-0 4A/5A PPAC) Won its third straight 4A state championship.

Outlook: “This season is a chance to reload from a stretch of three-straight 4A state championships,” Baxter said. “With the entire offense graduating (setter and all 5 hitters), opponents are undoubtedly going to believe this is the year to take down L-P. We will have to fight much harder to maintain our spot in the league and the state.”

Notes: The Rangers won their third consecutive state title last year, but lost seven Division I athletes to graduation.

Palmer Ridge Bears

Coach: Trevor Sullivan, 2nd season

Last year: 18-9 (5-2 4A/5A PPAC) Earned a No. 8 seed in the 4A state tournament.

Sand Creek Scorpions

Notes: Harold led the Scorpions with 48 kills last year.

Vista Ridge Wolves

3A Tri-Peaks

Colorado Springs Christian Lions

Coach: Lori Currier, 7th season

Last year: 22-5 (10-0 3A Tri-Peaks) Placed second in the Class 3A state tournament.

Outlook: “We have so many returning athletes from last year’s team,” Currier said. “It’s a great group, they work well together, and I’m looking forward to growing even more as individual athletes and a team.”

Notes: The Lions had three players with more than 200 kills in 2018, and will return two, including the team’s offensive leader Tidwell. CSCS lost the 2018 3A-1A girls’ volleyball player of the year, Christa Vogt, and three others to graduation.

Ellicott Thunderhawks

Coach: Ray Maika, 3rd season

Outlook: “We are excited to bring the bulk of our young team back from last year after our first year in 3A moving up from 2A,” Maika said. “We have a little bit more height on our front lines with an experienced back row.”

Notes: France returns after leading the team in kills with 240 — 173 more than the team’s second-leading hitter. Last year Henderson led the state in the regular season with 159 blocks.

James Irwin Jaguars

Coach: Mike Prusinowski, 9th season

Last year: 13-10 (5-7 3A Tri-Peaks)

Outlook: “The five returners are a solid group of girls,” Prusinowski said. “These girls have been together for two season already and are fun to watch play together. The all work hard and are not afraid of anyone despite not being the tallest team around.”

Notes: The Jaguars lost five players to graduation, including two of their three top offensive powers.

Manitou Springs Mustangs

Coach: Jane Squires, 4th season

Outlook: "We will be a youthful group this year mixed with some experience," Squires said. "The squad is working very hard and have made good goals for the season with great focus. Youth is athletic and making great strides."

St. Mary’s Pirates

Notes: Last year the Pirates had five players register 100 or more kills and all return for the 2019 season.

Notes: Soeldner returns to lead the Coursers after taking two years off. In the spring he led the Vanguard boys’ volleyball team to a fourth consecutive state championship.

2A Black Forest

Colorado Springs School Kodiaks

Coach: Kyong Lee, 12th season

Last year: 15-10 (5-1 2A Black Forest)

Returning athletes: Alair Ferguson, jr., MB/OH; Elise Layton, jr., OH; Sarina Mansour, sr., S; Whitney Richardi, jr., MB

Outlook: Lee said she is excited to work with a dedicated group of players.

Notes: Layton returns for her junior season after leading the league in kills per set, averaging 3.6. She had 270 total kills to lead the Kodiaks.

Peyton Panthers

Coach: Samantha Christian, 3rd season

Others: Riley Stearns, so., MH

Outlook: “We have a solid group of returning athletes, with a lot of kids throughout the summer with huge improvements,” Christian said. “We are really going to focus on playing smarter throughout the season, while building one the talents that we already have.”

Notes: Stearns returns after leading last year’s team in blocks (68) and finished second on the team with 185 kills.
