Crash shut downs intersection in eastern Colorado Springs

A 17-year-old boy is wanted in a fatal shooting Wednesday morning in east Colorado Springs, police said.

Officers went to the 2900 block of Whileaway Circle shortly before 9 a.m. for a reported shooting and found a deceased male, police said. Officers initially believed the gunshot wound was self-inflicted, but after investigating and interviewing witnesses, they learned it was not self-inflicted.

Then police learned that the suspect, who had fled before officers arrived, might have been inside a house in the 4500 block of Enchanted Circle North. Officers tried to make contact with the suspect but were unsuccessful, so officers contained the area and a SWAT team arrived to help.

Police eventually entered the home, but the suspect wasn't inside. He's wanted on suspicion of manslaughter, a felony.

The suspect's name has not been released because of his age.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 444-7000. To remain anonymous, call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at (719) 634-7867 or 1-800-222-8477.
