Pueblo police on Friday identified the two officers who shot at a wanted man during a confrontation early Wednesday.
Officers Jose Medina and David Mattarocci fired at Skyler Manzanares, 27, in the backyard of a home on the 1800 block of East Routt Avenue, police said in a news release. Manzanares pointed a gun at officers and was shot, police added.
Manzanares was listed in critical condition following the 1 a.m. shooting, police said. He was taken to a Denver hospital, where his condition improved.
He was on the Pueblo SAFE Streets most wanted list on suspicion of felony contempt, robbery and drug possession, police said. His bond was set at $100,000, police said.
Medina has been with Pueblo police for nearly six years, and Mattarocci has worked at the department for nearly two years. The officers, who are assigned to patrol, was placed on paid administrative leave.
