A man who got in the middle of a confrontation inside a Wendy's restaurant in Fountain on Sunday afternoon was stabbed after he tried to bear hug the suspect from behind, police said in a news release Tuesday.
The suspect, later identified as 56-year-old Daniel Lopez, fled the scene but was later arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault and other charges, court records show.
The stabbing was reported about 2:30 p.m. Sunday at 6464 South U.S. 85/87.
Cody Tryon, 36, was having a meal at the fast food restaurant with his family when he saw an argument between Lopez and another male customer, police said.
Tryon told police that Lopez pulled a knife during the confrontation.
"Due to children being nearby, the victim attempted to prevent the assault," police said in a report.
Tryon attempted to restrain Lopez, who pulled out a knife and stabbed Tryon, police said. Tryon was later treated for his injuries and released, police said.
Police said Lopez left the scene in his vehicle after the stabbing.
He was found a short time later and booked into El Paso County jail, police said. His bond is set at $25,000, court records show.
Lopez will be advised by the court Tuesday afternoon.
