The Teller County Sheriff's Office are combing through the Catamount Reservoir Saturday after human remains were discovered in the area the night before.

Teller County Sheriff's Office spokesman Cmdr. Greg Couch said a hiker reported finding a human skull about a mile off of the Ring The Peak Trail at about 5 p.m. Friday, according to Gazette news partner KKTV.

Deputies were led to the skull and have been sweeping the area for more remains.

"There's some other bone pieces out there but that is it that we can see right now," Couch said to KKTV. "There's a little snow cover in the area that might reveal some other things, but right now we just have those couple of things."

The investigation is being treated as a homicide until evidence suggests otherwise, KKTV reported. Investigators are searching through missing persons reports, including one for a 39-year-old Colorado Springs woman who was reported missing Sept. 24.

Micah Lambert's SUV was found abandoned in the Catamount Recreational Area parking lot Sept. 29. She was last seen the morning of Sept. 23 at a friend's house in Colorado Springs.

Search and rescue teams called off the search Oct. 4. They were unable to locate any evidence that indicates Lambert is in the Catamount area," a Teller County Sheriff's Office release said.

Couch cautioned that it was too early to know if the human remains are connected to Lambert's case.

Investigators are expected to be in the area for the next couple of days, KKTV reported. The stretch of Ring the Peak near the Catamount Reservoirs will be closed to recreational users.
