Insurance giant Progressive Corp. announced Monday plans to hire 193 sales representatives and claims adjusters for its Colorado Springs call center by the end of the year.
The company, which employs 1,200 in the call center and 400 more in an information technology operation at the same location, said the jobs are a mix of new positions and hires to replace employees who have left Progressive. The call center has added 375 jobs in the past 10 months.
Progressive has scheduled invitation-only interview events starting at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Aug. 19 at the call center, 12710 Voyager Parkway. To be considered, applicants must submit a resume and pass an online assessment posted at bit.ly/ColoradoSpringsAugEvent.
The sales jobs start Sept. 6 and involve answering customer calls about insurance rates and policy coverage on a schedule from 1 to 10 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The claims adjuster positions haven't yet been posted on Progressive's website, but a similar position in Denver indicates that adjusters determine whether a damaged vehicle is a total loss or the cost of parts, time and labor required to complete repairs, negotiates a price with repair shops and manages the repair process.
The full-time jobs pay $14-$17 per hour based on prior work experience. Employees can earn 10 percent more for hours worked after 7 p.m. on weekdays and all weekend hours, and up to $200 a month in cash performance awards plus an annual bonus of up to 16 percent of salary based on the company meeting financial goals. Progressive will pay a $500 bonus to new hires who already have a property and casualty insurance license.
Progressive provides medical, dental and vision benefits and onsite medical clinic and fitness center.
Applicants for the sales jobs must have a year of sales experience, demonstrated success in a sales job, effective telephone communication skills, ability to use common computer software such Microsoft Excel, Outlook and Word and a high school diploma or pass the general educational development test. Applicants for the claims adjuster also must have a similar educational background, though a bachelor's degree is preferred, and a year of experience as a claims adjuster or with a body shop.
