Grant Meech, sports director for NBC affiliate KOAA-TV, announced that he was leaving the station. His last day is Wednesday, July 3.
“My time has come to venture into new worlds," said Meech. "We accomplished a lot at KOAA5 over the past five years with the Broncos going to the Super Bowl, covering the Olympics and the athletes in town, and winning awards for 'Friday Football Fever.' I can’t thank the newsroom at Channel 5 enough for helping me through some challenging seasons and giving me support. Don’t worry, though, this is my home and you will see my face around town.”
It's time for a new adventure. I'm leaving Sports Island. My last day with @KOAA is Wednesday. It's been a pleasure to live and work in Colorado Springs and I will continue to make it my home. Thank you all for staying up late with me over the years. 🌴🌴🌴🌴🌴 pic.twitter.com/JdhtHj72ex— Grant Meech (@GrantMeech) July 2, 2019
Meech came to KOAA in 2014. Prior to his stint in Colorado Springs, he spent six years at CBS affiliate KWCH in Wichita, Kansas. A Colorado native, Meech grew up in Centennial and graduated from Colorado State University. There's been no word yet on his replacement but KOAA has confirmed they're looking to hire two sports reporters.
“It’s been a pleasure to work with Grant Meech as he covered Southern Colorado and Denver sports," said KOAA news director Ryan Hazelwood. "I wish him the very best of luck in the next chapter of his career.”
