INTERNSHIP PROGRAM: 2014

The Gazette is Colorado Springs’ daily newspaper with a newsroom of about 60 people working on our newspaper and online sites. We offer both paid and unpaid (for-credit) internships all year.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE

- Preferred candidates are college Journalism students in their junior or senior year.

- Applicants must have previous newsroom experience and clips.

- Self-reliance, computer literacy and social media skills are required. Video and audio production skills are a plus.

- Reporting interns must have access to a reliable car.

- Interns who are awarded an unpaid internship must be able to arrange with their school to obtain college credits for their work here before the internship begins.

EXPECTATIONS

- Reporting interns may be called upon to write for any news section of our paper and online sites, depending on our needs and their interests and skills. They do general assignment stories and an occasional project.

- Copy-editing and design interns can expect evening work.

Job Summary:

The Information Technology Team Lead is responsible for both strategic and tactical daily operations and initiatives for the Information Technology department including installation, support and maintenance of all IT systems. Position reports to the Director of Information Technology and Digital Development and is a key member of the IT staff.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

•Maintains daily operations of business process software, telecommunications, networking infrastructure, servers, PCs, operating systems and hardware.

•Develops and directs technical documentation of hardware/software additions or changes.

•Provide ongoing analysis and evaluation of existing IT systems, procedures, usage, problems and productivity.

•Create methods for continued improvement in all aspects of IT activity, including use of standardized procedures and checklists for common tasks/questions .

•Develop and enforce company IT policies and procedures.

•Maintain data security/control environment and IT Business Continuity/Disaster Recovery Plans.

•Remains current with regulations to ensure effectiveness and compliance

•Coaches, mentors, and supervises team members and contractors

•Coordinates the management of on-call schedule and coordination with Help Desk and other departments on a daily basis to ensure acceptable customer service levels

•Ensure users obtain professional, courteous, and timely support and service for existing IT systems to maximize their productivity

•Develops and implement user training on an as-needed basis

•Maintain existing and new IT vendor relationships and contracts

•Strong teamwork and communication skills are essential

•Works independently and unsupervised

•Works cross-functionally with other departments to ensure smooth execution of company initiatives and IT deliverables

•Directs, develops and maintains an on-going IT cross-training program within the department.

•Strong technical knowledge of operating systems, including MS Windows Server 2003+, Windows 7

•Previous team lead experience highly preferred including but not limited to priority setting, resource management and team building

Advertising Accounts Receivable Administrator - Finance (M-F 8A-5P)

Job Summary: The Advertising Accounts Receivable Administrator is an individual contributor responsible for maintaining a best in class organization by examining credit risks, assessing credit history, and approving or disapproving extension of credit for new accounts, adjusting credit limits on existing accounts, conducting credit collections calls and maintaining Advertising Accounts Receivables for The Gazette by providing exceptional customer service. Position assists the Corporate Credit Manager with other Clarity properties and acts as a backup in their absence. Position assists other areas of Finance as needed.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

• Runs and analyzes credit reports to determine credit risk and limit

• Contact credit references in order to ascertain credit worthiness

• Establishs, reviews and adjusts lines of credit as necessary

• Analyzes credit data and obtains all information needed to determine an acceptable limit of risk up to assigned authority level and makes recommendations for credit beyond this level

• Identifies account risks, potential credit problems, disputes and other customer issues

• Generates reports and communicates potential risks to the Corporate Credit Manager

• Review ads prior to publication for credit worthiness

• Enforces the company’s credit policy

• Reconcile transactions and balances to maintain accurate accounts

• Corrects errors, including misapplied payments, reversed late charges and over-payments

• Ensure DSO results are below industry standards

• Meets or exceeds monthly cash receiveables goal

• Conducts accounts receivables calls on past due accounts and document results electronically on customer account records

• Assists customers with billing questions and provides them with new invoices and any documentation needed to secure payment

• Works closely with sales representatives, sales managers, billing manager and/or Vice President of Advertsiing to resolve account discrepancies and advises sales staff on payment term changes

• Support sales team on customer account management

• Creates and dispenses warning letters to past due customers

• Negotiate promissary notes and payment agreements on past due accounts

• Views aging on a daily basis and reports any discrepencies to Corporate Credit Manager

• Conducts account reconciliation

• Facilitate pre-payment arrangements with sales staff for no-credit or poor credit customers

• Provides courteous, timely service when addressing customer questions and concerns

• Acts as liasion between The Gazette and outside collection agencies and/or attorney

• Represents The Gazette in court as necessary for accounts in litigation

• Works with external service providers like credit agencies, collection agencies, and other to fulfill responsibilities

• Assist Coporate Credit Manager with all aspects of credit collections and customer service on other Clarity properties as needed

• Maintain good working relationship with customers and sales staff

• Other duties as assigned

FIELD REPRESENTATIVE - TRANSPORTATION

Field Representative (Part-Time) $12/hour

The Colorado Springs Gazette is seeking a part-time (3-4 days a week: approximately 16-20 hours per week) Field Representative to work in one of our Distribution Warehouses between the hours of 2:00am – 9:00a.m. This position provides accurate and on-time delivery of the newspaper and related products to subscribers, non-subscribers, retail outlets, and vending machines as outlined daily. Must have a demonstrated sense of urgency to meet delivery deadlines and achieve customer satisfaction.
