INTERNSHIP PROGRAM: 2015

The Gazette is Colorado Springs’ daily newspaper with a newsroom of about 60 people working on our newspaper and online sites. We offer both paid and unpaid (for-credit) internships all year.

Who Is Eligible

- Preferred candidates are college Journalism students in their junior or senior year.

- Applicants must have previous newsroom experience and clips.

- Self-reliance, computer literacy and social media skills are required. Video and audio production skills are a plus.

- Reporting interns must have access to a reliable car.

- Interns who are awarded an unpaid internship must be able to arrange with their school to obtain college credits for their work here before the internship begins.

Expectations

- Reporting interns may be called upon to write for any news section of our paper and online sites, depending on our needs and their interests and skills. They do general assignment stories and an occasional project.

- Copy-editing and design interns can expect evening work.

Deadline for applications is Feb. 1, 2015.

FIELD REPRESENTATIVE (Part-Time)

The Colorado Springs Gazette is seeking a part-time (3-4 days a week: approximately 16-20 hours per week) Field Representative to work in one of our Distribution Warehouses between the hours of 2:00am - 9:00a.m. This position provides accurate and on-time delivery of the newspaper and related products to subscribers, non-subscribers, retail outlets, and vending machines as outlined daily. Must have a demonstrated sense of urgency to meet delivery deadlines and achieve customer satisfaction.

The Gazette's community focused reporting make it Colorado Springs' premier news source for local, national and international headlines. The paper engages the reader with in-depth, comprehensive information available daily. The Gazette aims to serve as the most detailed and insightful local news source in Colorado Springs.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

•Must be willing to adapt to changing schedules and responsibilities, to react to change productively (inclement weather, press delays, unpredictable circumstances) and handle other essential duties as assigned

•Must be able to read, write, speak and understand English at a high school graduate level

•Must have mathematical skills (addition, subtraction, multiplication, etc.) at a high school graduate level

•Read and follow written directions accurately and thoroughly

•Computer skills with emphasis in Microsoft Excel and Word

•Electronic Communications skills-frequent use of Text Messaging, Phone, E-mail

•Navigational Skills, able to read maps, GPS, and locate geographic locations efficiently

•Strong communication skills, both written and oral

•Lift up to 50 lb. bundles repeatedly

Minimum Education & Work Experience Requirements:

Education: High school graduate or equivalent

Certifications/Licenses: Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing, dependable transportation and insurance.

Work schedule: Must be available for flexible shifts including weekends, evenings, nights, early morning hours and holidays
