INTERNSHIP PROGRAM: 2015

The Gazette is Colorado Springs’ daily newspaper with a newsroom of about 60 people working on our newspaper and online sites. We offer both paid and unpaid (for-credit) internships all year.

Who Is Eligible

- Preferred candidates are college Journalism students in their junior or senior year.

- Applicants must have previous newsroom experience and clips.

- Self-reliance, computer literacy and social media skills are required. Video and audio production skills are a plus.

- Reporting interns must have access to a reliable car.

- Interns who are awarded an unpaid internship must be able to arrange with their school to obtain college credits for their work here before the internship begins.

Expectations

- Reporting interns may be called upon to write for any news section of our paper and online sites, depending on our needs and their interests and skills. They do general assignment stories and an occasional project.

- Copy-editing and design interns can expect evening work.

OutThereColorado.com DIGITAL CONTENT STRATEGIST

OutThereColorado.com is looking for a digital content specialist. As our digital content strategist you will play a key role in OutThereColorado.com’s mission to deliver an exceptional online experience to the Colorado outdoor enthusiast.

You know the potential of great content and how great content plays a key role in delivering exceptional experiences and you have to know-how to deliver these experiences.

You are responsible for developing and overseeing OutThereColorado.com’s content requirements including creating and curating all digital content deliverables for all audience channels as well as creating content-based marketing programs. You understand audience channels and can tailor experiences to those specific channels.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop and consult on long-term and short-term online content and content marketing strategies.
  • Curate, create, edit and manage all written and visual content for OutThereColorado.com
  • Maintain OutThereColorado.com’s content inventory and mapping documentation.
  • Maintain and enhance taxonomies and metadata frameworks for grouping and tagging of content.
  • Perform content audits to ensure that content conforms to Search Engine Optimization best practices.
  • Create a plan for original content in the form of regular short news pieces, short blogs, top 10 lists, video content aggregation, event coverage
  • Execute a social media marketing plan to increase brand awareness, generate inbound traffic and develop audience for OutThereColorado.com.
  • Manage brand and voice across all social media platforms creating a single brand identity with readers.
  • Oversee OutThereColorado’s social design (ie: Facebook Timeline cover, profile pic, thumbnails, ads, landing pages, Twitter profile, etc).
  • Listen, respond, ask questions and engage with outdoor enthusiasts through all social and web channels.
  • Monitor trends in social media tools, applications, channels, design and strategy.
  • Solicit and publish user generated content through reviews and comments.
  • Manage a user email content distribution plan that includes multiple weekly e-newsletters, custom e-newsletter promotions, e-newsletter advertising and management of respective contact lists
  • Collaborate with the advertising department in the creation and management of sales initiatives including sponsored content, reader polls, giveaways, promotions, advertising, special sections, micro-sites, etc.
  • Implement Google and Facebook ad campaigns
  • Become a community advocate for OutThereColorado.com, engaging in dialogues and answering questions.
REQUIREMENTS:
  • 5+ years of experience working in interactive design, digital me and/or digital agency environments.
  • Proficient knowledge of Colorado’s outdoor recreation.
  • Basic knowledge of HTML and experience with popular content management systems
  • Editorial, proofreading, fact-checking and writing experience
  • Proficient knowledge of online tools such as Google Analytics, Vimeo, YouTube.
  • Demonstrated creativity and documented immersion in Social Media (understand the importance of personal branding)
  • Display in-depth knowledge and understanding of Social Media platforms and their respective participants (Facebook, Twitter, Yelp, Google+Local, YouTube, Instagram, Pinterest etc.) and how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios for different audience channels.
  • Maintains excellent writing and language skills.
  • Displays ability to effectively communicate information and ideas in written and video format.

OutThereColorado.com DIGITAL PRODUCT MANAGER

OutThereColorado.com is seeking an intrinsically motivated leader to take its digital network to the next level.

This is a rare opportunity to align passions with work life so dedication to Colorado’s outdoor lifestyle is key. This position requires a marketing and publishing mindset, with the most important aspect of thinking “reader first.” This individual will play the primary role in OutThereColorado.com’s mission to deliver the most sought after digital experience for to Colorado’s outdoor enthusiast.

This position will drive product awareness through the distribution of content tailored to the adventure lifestyle audience. This key individual will interface with a range of internal and external stakeholders: from executive leadership to news, marketing, sales and readers.

Ultimately, the job of the Digital Product Manager is to think like a publisher/journalist while leading the development of product, content and marketing initiatives in all forms to drive new and current business. We are seeking an intrinsically motivated individual with experience and a passion for content strategy, audience development and community participation with an entrepreneurial mindset.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Develop relationships between outdoor industry representatives’, local area experts, outdoor industry contacts and outdoor recreation publishers regarding promotions, gear reviews, content, etc.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

  • Possesses knowledge and experience in the tenets of traditional marketing. Marketing degree is welcomed but not required with relevant work experience.
  • Demonstrates creativity and documented immersion in Social Media.
  • Proficient in content marketing theory and application. Experience sourcing and managing content development and publishing.
  • Exhibits the ability to jump from the creative side of marketing to analytical side, able to demonstrate why their ideas are analytically sound.
