One person died and three were injured after crash on U.S. 24 near Ramah in eastern El Paso County, Colorado State Patrol reported.

State patrol said that at about 8:00 a.m. Saturday, Richard Alessi, 88, of Washington, Ill. was driving a 2012 Honda Accord eastbound on U.S. 24 when he drifted into the westbound lane and onto the north shoulder. He collided with the guardrail, then overcorrected to the right and back to the left. His car spun in front of a westbound 2005 Dodge Ram Truck driven by Justin Lazor, 29, of Calhan. The truck collided with the back of the Honda on the right side, spinning the Honda in the opposite direction before stopping. The truck then hit the guardrail.

Barbara Alessi, who was sitting in the back seat, was pronounced dead on scene. Richard was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries. The front seat passenger, Robert Writer-Alessi, was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.

Lazor drove himself to the hospital with minor injuries.

State patrol said drugs, alcohol and speed are not factors in the crash.

Highway 24 was closed for nearly four hours.
