A 61-year-old Colorado Springs woman died Thursday in a crash on U.S. Highway 85 in southeastern Colorado Springs, Colorado state troopers said.
Trooper Josh Lewis said the head-on collision happened shortly before 1:30 p.m. near Maxwell Street. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities said she was not wearing her seat belt.
The crash happened when the woman, who was driving southbound in a 2013 Ford Edge, veered into the northbound lane, hitting a 2001 GMC Sierra. The driver of the GMC, identified as 77-year-old Frank Debell and his passenger, 76-year-old Doris Debell, were taken to Memorial Hospital. Frank Debell sustained minor injuries, and Doris Debell sustained serious injuries, authorities said. Both were wearing seat belts.
