A man was hit by a train just after 1 p.m. Thursday, Colorado Springs police said.

Police said the 33-year-old man, identified as Quamaine Jenkins, walked in front of a Burlington Northern Railroad train at the 700 block of Conejos Street, near the Martin Drake Power Plant.

He was taken to the hospital with serious head injuries, police said.

According to police, the incident was accidental.

Television stations reported the man was wearing headphones. Police said Las Animas and Royer streets near the tracks were expected to be closed overnight for an investigation.
