Wednesday's prep roundup: Chloe Welch's big night helps Mesa Ridge stay unbeaten in league

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Mesa Ridge 70, Woodland Park 37

At Mesa Ridge: Woodland Park led by three points after the first quarter, but the Grizzlies got on track with a 15-5 advantage in the second quarter.

Chloe Welch led Mesa Ridge with 23 points, 16 rebounds and six steals, while Ashley Bowen added 17 and 13. The Grizzles are 17-2 and 13-0 in league play.

Woodland Park dropped to 5-15, 2-11.

Air Academy 53, Vista Ridge 33

At Vista Ridge: Mary Parchinski led a balanced Air Academy scoring attack with 12 points on 6-of-9 shooting with six rebounds.

Annie Louthan and Zoe Sims added nine points apiece for the Kadets (19-1, 11-0).

Vista Ridge dropped to 8-12, 3-8.

Widefield 74, Mitchell 18

At Widefield: The Gladiators matched Mitchell’s point total in the first quarter, leading 18-7 after the first eight minutes.

Aaliyah Ricketts hit 9 of 18 shots and led Widefield (16-4, 11-2) with 20 points. She also had eight steals, seven assists and seven rebounds. Freshman Lili Krause added 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Falcon 68, Sand Creek 46

At Sand Creek: Sand Creek led by six at halftime, 30-24, before Falcon won the second half 44-16.

Seniors Emily Vaszary and Ena Keco scored 17 and 16 points, respectively, for Falcon (8-12, 4-7).

Sand Creek dropped to 9-11, 4-8.

Pine Creek 49, Fountain-Fort Carson 46, OT

At Fountain-Fort Carson: Kate Ogrodny led the Eagles with 14 points, as the Eagles improved to 10-10 and 5-4 in conference.

The Trojans (11-10, 5-5) got 13 points from Samiyah Worrell and 12 points and eight rebounds from Danae Christensen.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

Widefield 79, Mitchell 35

At Widefield: The Gladiators broke things open behind a 22-6 run that spanned the second quarter and improved to 15-4 and 10-2 in league play to stay atop the league standings.

TJ Davis led Widefield with 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Myeik Goodwin-Lagree added 15.

Donavan Adams led Mitchell with seven points.

Vista Ridge 62, Air Academy 30

At Air Academy: The Wolves scored at least 11 points in each quarter and held the Kadets to eight or fewer in all four quarters.

Vista Ridge moved to 11-9, 6-5 in Pikes Peak Athletic Conference play.

Niko Lunt hit three 3-pointers and led Air Academy (9-11, 3-8) with 13 points.

Mesa Ridge 80, Woodland Park 51

At Woodland Park: The Grizzlies led 43-17 at the break and coasted to victory.

Deven Nelson hit four 3-pointers to lead Mesa Ridge (13-7, 10-3) with 20 points. Devon Ricketts and Elijah Flemming-Bodden added 11 and 10 points, respectively, for the Grizzlies.

The Panthers dropped to 9-12, 4-10.

Ice Hockey

Coronado 5, Doherty 4

At Sertich: The Cougars led 5-1 before the Spartans made things interesting late.

Andrew Burton's second power-play goal made it 5-1 Coronado (6-10) roughly five minutes into the second period.

Zachary Fellinger got a goal back for Doherty (0-14) later in the period before Anthony Hervias and Scott Sellers II scored in the third period to make it a one-goal game.
