NEW CASTLE — Colorado regulators say about 2,100 gallons of contaminated water from oil and gas development sprayed into a field and pond south of New Castle after a valve leaked July 2.

WPX Energy reported to the Colorado Oil and Gas Conservation Commission that the incident happened when water was being transferred between two storage pits.

The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel (http://tinyurl.com/lt6s9ul ) reports a valve failed, allowing pressure to build until a line ruptured.
