BALTIMORE (AP) — The Walters Art Museum has been awarded $913,000 in grants for upcoming projects and exhibits leading into its 80th anniversary as a public museum.

Three federal agencies awarded grants to the Walters. They total $500,000 from the National Endowment for the Humanities, Institute of Museum and Library Services and the National Endowment for the Arts to support an upcoming exhibition on Islamic art and culture in fall 2015.

Prior to that exhibit, the museum will celebrate its anniversary with a major reinstallation of its fourth floor galleries, focusing on the museum's founders. The Richard C. von Hess Foundation gave $250,000 to support the effort.

The museum also is starting a two-year refurbishment of the historic Hackerman House near Baltimore's Washington Monument and is working to improve the museum's environmental controls.
