Huerfano School District Re-1 schools John Mall High School and Peakview School in Walsenburg will be open Tuesday after the two schools were closed Monday due to a credible threat.

Superintendent Michael Moore said the schools received multiple threats from a former junior high student who was expelled last spring, Gazette news partner KKTV reported.

The student first threatened to beat up some eighth-graders, then vowed to shoot up their school, KKTV said.

"All Huerfano (County) RE-1 schools will be in session tomorrow operating as normal. Any threat has been resolved. It is safe to attend," the school district posted on Facebook Monday afternoon.
