Even if you've never attended a classical concert in your life, you're likely familiar with Antonio Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons," which a scaled-down Colorado Springs Philharmonic takes on this Saturday.
The piece is easily Vivaldi's most popular work and has been played by countless orchestras (and on elevators) since it debuted in the early 1700s. Solo violinist Bella Hristova joins the philharmonic, which will be conductorless.
This a Chicago Symphony Orchestra "Beyond the Score" performance. That is, the first half will utilize video excerpts, narration, acting and orchestra excerpts to deconstruct this well-known work. After the intermission, the piece will be played in totality and with no intermissions.
"I really hope to come up with our own interpretation in Colorado Springs," Hristova says, "and not just do the standard 'oh, people usually take time here and slow down here and they speed up here.' I hope to keep people on the edge a little bit."
