A two-vehicle crash Wednesday on Colorado 115 and Cheyenne Mountain Boulevard sent one motorist to the hospital and the other to jail, police said.

The 3:40 p.m. crash was seen and heard from a distance. Witnesses said one of the cars — a black Mercedes — burst into a massive fireball and caused a large boom.

The Mercedes, which was carrying oxygen tanks, was stopped at a red light when it was rear ended by a Volkswagen Jetta. The driver of the Jetta, Joshua Morgan, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs, said police Lt. Thomas Harris. The other unidentified driver was taken to the hospital with a spinal fracture.

The crash forced lane closures for about 2 1/2 hours.
