CRESTED BUTTE - The world-class kayaking streams are running wild outside this mountain town.

Oh Be Joyful Creek, the class V rapids near Slate River Road, is no exception and kayakers camped out last weekend at the base of the whitewater to test the waterfalls and slides.

"There is nowhere else I would rather be," said Syd Miller of Firestone. "This is the highlight of our summer."

Oh Be Joyful is one of three streams that boaters are attacking during the June runoff. Daisy Creek and Slate River are in the same basin. The typical boating season ranges from May to July.
