VAIL — The Vail Town Council has voted to extend its ban on retail marijuana sales for another year.

The Vail Daily reported Tuesday (http://tinyurl.com/p8ydctq ) that council members said they needed more time to consider whether to allow sales. The ban was set to expire July 31.

Some council members also said they want to review the experience of cities and towns that already allow retail sales.

Eagle County, which includes Vail, is reviewing eight applications for retail marijuana licenses, some for locations near Vail.

Town trustees in the western Colorado town of De Beque (dee BEK') voted Monday to allow retail sales in the business district and on town-annexed land near Interstate 70.

Colorado voters legalized retail marijuana sales statewide effective Jan. 1 but municipalities can opt out.
